Biography
Born in Wrocław, Poland, Adam Hilton moved to Lancaster with his family at the age of six. Adam’s love of music flourished when he joined the chapel choir at his secondary school. Adam then became a chorister—and later Head Chorister—at Lancaster Priory, where he received free singing lessons. While still in school, he was given responsibilities to conduct the church and school choirs, leading to his appointment as the first Conducting Scholar at Lancaster Priory.
Adam studied Music at the University of York from 2019 to 2022. There, he developed his singing under the tutelage of Alex Ashworth and joined the distinguished choir, The 24, led by Robert Hollingworth (I Fagiolini). In his third year at York, he started a new student choir. Animas sang for Adam’s final conducting recital in 2022, which included Benjamin Britten’s Rejoice in the Lamb and Herbert Howells’s St Paul’s Canticles, for which he was awarded a First.
After graduating in 2022, Adam moved to London to develop his freelance career. He regularly sang in venues across London, including the Old Naval College, St John’s Hyde Park Crescent, St Gabriel’s, Pimlico and All Saints, Fulham. Adam has also performed at the Royal Albert Hall, Queen Elizabeth Hall, Westminster Abbey and St Paul’s Cathedral.
Adam was awarded the Hertford Choral Society Conducting Fellowship for 2023/24, during which he refined his conducting style, placing particular emphasis on musical detail, vocal technique, and detail.
In 2024, he was awarded the National Youth Choir Fellowship, a highly selective professional development programme for emerging choral leaders in the UK, and has since become a regular music staff member on National Youth Choir courses.
Following this, Adam moved back to York to study on the Solo Voice Ensemble Singing (SVES) master’s. This unique programme, led by Robert Hollingworth (I Fagiolini), is dedicated to the art of one-to-a-part vocal performance. The course focuses on developing advanced ensemble skills, vocal technique, and stylistic interpretation across a wide range of repertoire.
Adam is now back in London, where he continues to build his career as a freelance baritone and conductor.
